Leigh’s April 2022 newsletter

Sunny spring greetings to my wonderful friends of the Featherstones Comfort Pad!

Do you remember the sweet photo of sisters-in-law on vacation in Aruba that appeared in my January newsletter? They sent me photos their husbands took of them sunbathing with their Comfort Pads – sitting on the beach, lying in the sand, stretched out on the chaise. They were so cute!

Well, one of them just sent me this photo of her flying to Florida this month.

With the photo, her note: “I never travel without my Featherstones Comfort Pad!! Becca”

Thank you for sharing, Becca!

Speaking of traveling, Scott and I flew to Florida for a wedding weekend a few weeks ago and visited the area for a few days after. It was nice to get away after limited roaming close to home the past couple of years. It was our first jet flight since our honeymoon in 2018, and it sure was nice to feel 80 degrees again! And, yes, I had my Comfort Pad with me!

My CP gave me great lower back support on the three-hour plane rides, and it definitely did make me more comfy lying on the beach, whether sand or chaise. Like Becca said in her note, I never travel without my Featherstones Comfort Pad! (And it fits easily in a carry-on bag.)

Thanks for the reviews!

You know I ask regularly for people who like their Comfort Pad to leave a review and rating on my website (https://featherstonesinc.com/comfort-pad), on their pad’s page. There’s no doubt that consumer reviews are hugely influential in online sales (and you have the sincere thanks of a budding entrepreneur!). I thought I’d pass along a few recent ones that brought a smile.

First, Jenny owns a Comfort Pad in Dusty Blue Pleather Fabric. Here’s what she wrote.

“I have found so many ways to use the comfort pad: lumbar support while seated, between my knees while side sleeping, under my chest at the chiropractor, but my absolute favorite is for knee and sit bone support during yoga! Super versatile product, and my toddler loves to borrow it too 🙂”

Ashley purchased a Comfort Pad in Coral Garden Wave Performance Fabric.

“I recently had a breast reduction and have used my comfort pad whenever I lay on my belly. It helps immensely and gave me the confidence to lay on my front after the surgery. I also use it every day in my chair in my home office for back support and I love it!! I also brought it on the airplane for a long flight and it made all the difference on my back! It’s worth every penny.”

Finally, Heidi also owns a Comfort Pad in Coral Garden Wave Performance Fabric. Here are her words.

“The missing piece! The Comfort Pad makes sitting, laying, and stretching all more comfortable. It is a great support and can be placed under pressure points for immediate relief. You do not need breasts to find benefits from this device. Some of the many uses I encounter are lumbar support, under my knees when in yoga poses and neck support in bed. There are so many uses that I am still finding. Also as a side note it is really just pretty to look at too!”

I will be so very grateful if you leave your review and rating on your Comfort Pad’s page at https://featherstonesinc.com/comfort-pad).

I know I’m preaching to the choir when I bring up the Comfort Pad’s many benefits, as most people on this email own their own. But I have to say – I never tire of hearing what people have to say about it! We’ve sold them to folks in seven or eight states, from Maine to California to Florida. And now, as I mentioned last month, we have hospitals considering adding the thoroughly tested Comfort Pad to their imaging centers because of proven comfort improvement. We hope to learn more soon – it’s too exciting to not mention it again!

A little soul searching

It’s hard to think of much else amid the horror, the atrocities being unleashed on the citizens of Ukraine. How can such devastation be so deliberately rained down on these innocent people by such ruthless, souless monsters? Scott said he was literally thinking of that term, “rain down on,” in that context, and “rain” made him remember that Earth Day is this Friday, April 22 (also his Mom’s birthday – she would be 101 this year).

While we do mourn the frightful loss of thousands of innocent lives in Ukraine – and we seek to support the many thousands of homeless refugees and pray for an end to the violence – Scott suggests we can also take a moment to reflect on our good Earth, even seek from her immense gift of life and energy ways to honor and respect that. Living life well, caring for our little patch of planet, can help us find uplifting spirit and reason to celebrate.

Scott is the editor of the community newspaper in Plymouth, Massachusetts – AKA America’s Hometown – and residents there will gather Saturday for a townwide cleanup, a semi-annual event of many years. Our town is having a beach cleanup day then too, so we know what we’ll be doing!

We can all pick up some litter, do some plantings. We can reduce our use of resources, reuse as much of those resources as we can, and recycle what resources we can’t. We can all make an impact, especially when we do it together! It can be fun and neighborly! You can find more ideas here: https://www.earthday.org/

Speaking of doing things together – we love to enterain and have family and friends join us for meals regularly. From the response I’ve gotten to my newsletter, my monthly recipe has been popular, so here we go again!

OK, so how do you define healthy food? And how much do you bend the boundaries? We’re pretty good at eating the right things. But we also know sometimes we need to push it a tad. I think this month’s recipe does both.

I made this one a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say it was a huge hit. It’s my take on a Crispy Baked Shrimp Scampi recipe someone adapted from Ina Garten’s recipe, she of “Barefoot Contessa” fame. Thank you, Ina, for sharing your recipe! Here’s my variation. It serves six, but I think mine went further.

Crispy Baked Shrimp Scampi, a la Leigh

Ingredients
2 pounds shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails on or off (I use extra-large shrimp; Scott likes the tails left on – he likes the crunch). Frozen shrimp work just fine.
2 tablespoons squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons white wine (or sub with extra lemon juice or chicken stock)
1 brown shallot, minced
1/3 cup melted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
4 gloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or more, to your taste)
1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley leaves
Package of linguine cooked, drained, tossed with olive oil and garlic
Lemon wedges to serve

What to do
Heat oven to 425ᵒ. Spread linguine across bottom of large baking dish. Combine shrimp, lemon juice, white wine, shallots, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspon pepper over the linguine. Be sure ingredients mix well over the shrimp.
In a small bowl, combine the remaining melted butter, breadcrumbs, garlic, parmesan cheese, red peper flakes, and 2 tablespoons of chopped paresely; mix well. I add artichoke hearts to this.
Sprinkle this mixture over the shrimp and bake for 12 minutes, or until hot and bubbly, and the shrimp are just cooked through.
Change oven to broil for another minute or so, until top is crispy and golden.
Garnish with remaining parsley, squeeze a drizzle of lemon, and serve with lemon wedges.

Tada!

I served this with spinach salad and garlic bread. (Scott thinks garlic is its own food group. 😊)
This one’s a goodie – enjoy if you try it! If you have a fun recipe or health tip you’d like to share here, just send it to me at leigh@featherstonesinc.com – glad to share it!
